Metal ceramics are heterogeneous composite materials composed of metal or alloy phases combined with ceramic phases. This material combines the advantages of both metals and ceramics, exhibiting high hardness, high strength, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, high-temperature resistance, and a low coefficient of thermal expansion. Metal ceramics are typically prepared using powder metallurgy methods, where interfaces between the metal and ceramic phases exist throughout three-dimensional space.

Cermets find extensive applications in aerospace, equipment manufacturing, construction materials and mining, as well as machining. In aerospace, they are commonly used for engine blades, small bearing shells, and rocket throat liners. In equipment manufacturing, they serve as coatings, guide rollers, and wear-resistant liners. In construction materials and mining, they are suitable for crusher hammers and drilling equipment bits. In machining, metal ceramics are favored for cutting tools due to their high hardness and wear resistance.
